CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections

October 18, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

China’s rapid emergence as a global player and potential partner on many U.S. policy priorities has ensured that the Sino-American relationship will have a direct impact on the lives of nearly everyone in both countries. To help Americans better understand the complex U.S.-China relationship, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations is conducting the tenth annual CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections at more than 70 locations nationwide.

Join the World Affairs Council of CT in partnership with the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations for a discussion on this critical relationship. The evening will kick off with local CT expert, Dan Murphy, Program Director of Yale Center Beijing, and will be followed by a live webcast with former Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger.

6pm: Reception with light refreshments and discussion with Dan Murphy, Program Director for Yale Center Beijing

7pm: Live webcast discussion with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, moderated by National Committee on US-China Relations President Stephen Orlins

Dan Murphy is the inaugural program director for Yale Center Beijing (YCB), Yale’s physical footprint in China. Since its founding in October 2014 the Center has held over 200 events and programs, hosting thought-leaders for dialog on a range of critical topics. Before coming to Yale, Dan spent six years at the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations where he worked primarily to develop the Public Intellectuals Program, which connects America’s next generation of China scholars with policymakers and the media.

In addition to his years as national security advisor (1969-1975) and secretary of state (1973-1977), Dr. Henry Kissinger has also taught at Harvard University and is currently chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc., an international consulting firm. While national security advisor, Dr. Kissinger played a crucial role in arranging President Nixon’s 1972 visit to China, which opened the door to the re-establishment of U.S.-China relations.

CHINA Town Hall is a national day of programming on China involving about 70 cities throughout the United States. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this national program.
